Camp Starlite

Camp Starlite is not just a camp. It is a wonderful place where children with muscular dystrophy can feel “normal”. I have made many lifelong friends at camp over the past few years. These people have not only become my friends, but my family. Camp is the most welcoming place I have ever been to. I would not trade my experiences at camp for anything in the entire world. Camp Starlite has given me many things that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Most children, like me, just want a place to feel “normal”. A place where they can fit in and won’t be treated different because of their disability. Camp Starlite is the perfect place. Each camper will feel special while in the care of their own personal counselor. All the activities at camp are geared for children in wheelchairs. This means so much to me. Selfless people give up their time and spend a week with these children. Sometimes, this week at camp is the best week of the child’s life. It gives me joy to know that there are people out there who are trying to make these children’s lives better.

One of the most beautiful things in the world is seeing a child during his or her first camp experience. Its truly amazing to seeing a little child smiling at all the happiness camp is bringing them. It puts a smile on my face. It’s wonderful each year seeing new and old smiling faces. Camp not only makes me smile, it has given me self-confidence.

Throughout the years of going to camp, I have grown stronger as a person. I developed skills that I will use for the rest of my life. Simple things, such as jumping off the diving board into a swimming pool and singing karaoke by myself, have helped me developed self-confidence. I have also developed social skills and communication skills. Meeting all these new people have helped me in so many ways and I am so thankful for it.

I am also very thankful and blessed for the kind people who have donated money for me and my friends to go to Camp Starlite. Camp Starlite is one of my favorite places in the world. Camp Starlite is truly a magical place where dreams come true and memories are made.

Hi! This is my first time creating a blog, so forgive me if I make any mistakes. I thought creating a blog will help my aspiring journalism career. I will be graduating in May and hope to attend Louisiana College next fall. I plan on majoring in journalism. Hopefully this blog will help improve my writing ability.

Tonight, will be my youth pastor's last wedneday with the youth at my church. I know many of friends and I are sas about his departure, but God is working in his life and calling him to a new church. So lets all pray his new job will work out for him.

Jeremiah 29:11 " 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' "
I hope everyone one of you has a great day....... bye :)
